Time To Think About Color

There’s no time like the present to get a head start on fall hair color. After all, the stores are full of back-to-school supplies, and sweaters and boots are popping up on manikins everywhere. Forewarned is forearmed, as they say, and taking a peek at fall hair color trends will help you have a good conversation about it with your colorist at your next appointment.

Call them what you will, but hand painted highlights will be everywhere this fall. Baby lights, chunky highlights, balayage, contourage – you name it, and there will be an A-lister rocking it. The beauty of these techniques is that they are literally customized to you, your cut and your color. No one else will look exactly like you because your colorist will hand apply the colors that best fit your chosen style in the precise locations to enhance your cut, your bone structure, and your skin tone. It may be even better than buying couture.

In terms of your base hair color, the overall trend will be toward warmer tones no matter where you land on the color spectrum. The one possible exception will be platinum; this fall it’s likely to remain as icy as ever. But for blondes, brunettes and reds, the trend will be to warm it up. Think in terms of caramel, honey, chocolate, and you don’t even need to worry about keeping up with your roots unless you want to. Grown out colors will still be big this fall, too. Look for color and highlight combinations that will bring a bit of that golden autumn sunshine into your style.
