Throughout history, various cultures from around the world have utilized massage therapy in their healing practices. Today, we use many different types of massage therapy for a variety of health-related purposes. Here at Salon D’Artiste, we offer a full range of massage options to suit your needs. If you’re new to this type of treatment, we understand the options can be a bit overwhelming. We will highlight the differences here to help you choose the best one for you.

Therapeutic. A therapeutic massage refers to the idea that both the client and the therapist are committed to achieving structural change within the body. Usually, you come to the therapist with a specific complaint, such as pain in your hip, tight shoulders, or a spasm in your lower back. The therapist will then consult with you a plan of action, where change and rehabilitation can take place over a series of visits. This type of massage will also relax the body, but the main goal is to help you overcome pain and tightness.

Nature’s Healing Stone Therapy. Hot stone massage is a specialty treatment using smooth, heated stones as an extension of your therapist’s hands or used in specific places on the body. The heat is deeply relaxing and can warm up tight muscles so the therapist can work more deeply. This type of massage relieves muscle tension and pain, reduces stress and anxiety, and promotes relaxation and sleep.

Pregnancy. A customized massage for the mother-to-be in her second or third trimester, prenatal massage relieves many of the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy, such as backaches, stiff neck, leg cramps, headaches, and swelling.

Reflexology. Reflexology is a therapy based on the principle that there are small and specific areas in the hands and feet that correspond to specific muscle groups or organs of the body. Through the application of pressure on these particular areas of the hands and feet, reflexology can promote benefits such as relaxation of tension, improvement of circulation, and support of normalized function in the targeted corresponding area.
